Shout to Stump for the design.  I started building this smoker in March 2010 and worked on it about once every two weeks.  Finished it in March 2011 and love it.  It is truly set it and forget it.

I'm a newb at posting pics, so bare with me...

Hope this helps someone build one!  I'll get some food pics up soon!

Nice build of your Stump clone. One of my boys wants to build one of these. All he needs is a decent set of plans to work from.

nice build................

      and nice shop

Thanks Dutch.  It's really not that hard.  Just figure out your desired dimensions and build a frame.  The rest is just filling it in with sheet metal.  I used 14 ga inside and outside, but it was probably overkill.  If I had it to go over again, I'd use 16 gauge for the outer skin.  Would definitely save some weight.  I'm planning on going with bigger tires to make it easier to move around.  I think I have 12" or 13" tires now.

Thanks!  I'm fortunate enough to have access to a medium/heavy fabrication/machine shop.  I worked there for a few years while finishing college and got a good friend out of the deal.  I made the second smoker for him for letting me use the shop.  I bought the hard parts and paint, he supplied the material.

We both run Digi Q's and these smokers hold temps like a dream.

I think I can nearly get a full 20 lb bag of Cowboy in the chute.  It's 6"x6" and opens up to 6"x8" at the firebox.  The chute is probably about 30" tall.  I can get about a 16 hour cook out of a 20 lb bag at 225 degrees (cooking chamber is approx. 30"x30"x30".  The Digi Q burns fuel a little faster than a natural draft.

Nice build, I used to have a Stumps and this looks built as well if not better.

where do you guys buy supplies such as door gaskets, temp gauge, door hinges. and it's this a pellet smoker and how does that work.

Mcmaster-Carr for supplies.  They have all that you mentioned.

This isn't a pellet smoker, uses charcoal and wood chunks.  The fire sits above a grate and as the ash falls through the grate, more charcoal drops from the chute into the fire (hence the gravity fed term).

Hope this helps!
