I have been smoking for years using an Oklahoma Joe Offset Smoker and love the results of the BBQ that it produces, but with all the burn bans that we have had this summer I was going into BBQ withdrawals. So, to get my BBQ fix I bought a MES 40 from Sam's Club for $300.00 and so far love the results (I have since cooked two 8lbs butts for our unit meeting at work which turned out GREAT!) The only thing missing was the smoke ring, but I have read various post on how to obtain the smoke ring and will give it a try and post more pics to share the results. Regardless of the missing smoke ring the butt was AMAZING!! I think part of the amazing flavor was due to the AMNPS which made it a true set it and forget it with a 11 hour burn. BTW, I want to give Todd at A-Maze-N-Smoke a big THANK YOU for being so helpful providing me information on which model would fit my need, AND providing me the $10.00 off code!

AMNPS which lasted for a tad over 11 hours

Just under 9lbs at 225 for 13.5 hours. Once done I wrapped it in foil then

with a thick towel. I then placed it in an ice chest to rest and continue to

break down. After 4 hours it was still almost too hot to handle by hand, but

is there any other way to pull pork except by hands. Plus it makes it easier

to sample as I prepare the pulled pork. =)

As you can see there isn't a "Smoke Ring", but will try some of the suggestions

that I read on the SMF and see how that goes, but that didn't take away from the

awesome flavor that I was able to get out of the MES/AMNPS!

Awwww GOOD EATS! =)

Nice looking pig. Going to break my MES out and try it next week. I'ver always had great results with it. Need to buy and AMAzing for it. Sounds like from the board they are the bomb.

Hi jenny2525
I'm new to this it looks great can't wait for my first one.I have just one question on your AMNPS why is it located on the top and not on the bottom ?we all know smoke rises, just curious like I said I'm new and still learning.
Thanks
Bill

Why did I place the AMNPS on top rack? Well, the instruction said to put the AMNPS above the air supply and that's where I figured I would give it a try, and I wanted to make sure none of the drippings end up putting the pellets out. I know smoke rises, but he AMNPS does such a great job with amount of smoke it puts out the meat still came out with a nice smoke flavor. I will say the 2nd batch I did I placed the AMNPS on the very bottom of the smoker and the results in flavor was the same... GREAT!

That's very interesting that the AMNPS would work so well at the top of the smoker. It sure would eliminate some of the issues like

protecting it from grease & keeping plenty of air flow around it.

I bet Todd has tried this before, if not I think he will be doing some experimenting this weekend!

I too was amazed at how well the AMNPS did, and I plan to do some more experimenting/smoking this labor day weekend to see if I can have flavor AND a smoke ring. My wife thinks I am crazy to work on having a smoke ring since the flavor was all there! Still... If I can get it then I want it!

very nicely done.......I've got some pulled pork in the fridge I did a couple of days ago and after seeing your pics I'm going to go have a nibble....thanks for posting
