Hi everyone.  I found this site a few days ago and it looks like there is TONS of info on here I'll be able to use, so first and foremost, thank you everyone that posts!

I am new to smoking.  I have seen it done a few times but will probably need some help along the way.   I just inherited a smoker from a relative, he's not dead thank god, he just upgraded.  It's a custom jobber and has the appearance of a small fridge smoker.  It needs some new rivets and a seal around the door to get started, but for the most part, in good shape.  Maybe I can post some pics later.

I'm looking forward to my first recipe.  Any advice on what to smoke first?  Preferably something easy to get my feet wet?  Thanks again to everyone!

You're not new to smoking, you did it all the time back in college with Chong and Strawberry.

I would say best thing to smoke to start would be a pork shoulder for pulled pork, they are very forgiving.

What temp can you get your smoker up to?

I would start with chicken , cheap and easy. good way to figure out your smoker . post picture of the smoker . Lot of smart people here they can give u all sort of advice on how to use it.

I've posted pics, but because I'm new, my pictures are being held for moderation.  Thanks for the tips!

Brats or sausage are cheap and easy. So simple a caveman could do it. Marinate the brats in a nice dark beer for 4 to 24 hours first. any wood (wood) do. And smoke 225 for about an hour ish. Be sure to check proper cooking temps. Guaranteed to light your fire.

Welcome to the SMF. Glad to have you here. Lots of good folks, great recipes and knowledge. Looking forward to your first qview.

I have yet to add a heat source to the smoker.  Any advice on which seems to work best?  I have watched people use an electric burner before and am somewhat familiar with it.
