Nice, really nice.   Thanks for taking the time to take the pics. As a builder I know that it can be tough to get all the pics that count. Sometimes it can even be a pain in the backside.

I think I may need to borrow you gas shock idea for my next build. Mine may be a swing door tho, I hate being on a slope and the door swings back against my arm.

Is the door when in the up position close to your forehead?   From the pics, it looks like it may be close. It might make for a bad weekend to turn around with a giant brisket and ker-pow the noggin on the corner of the door.

Just Sayin!!!!!!!!!!!   and I know this how?????   Three trys to guess and they all three say Been There Done That.   Got the scars to prove it. LOL

Awesome build, I love it.

Tom you are correct the door is a little closer to my head then i would like, but any higher and i would not be able to reach the wooden handle to close it. When i first built the mounts for the shocks i was expecting to use 36" shocks so when i got the 31" shocks i came up a little bit short but for the time being i'm going to work with it. I can always relocate the shock mounts if i'm unhappy.

The idea for the shocks came from a vertical insulated cabinet build i saw on here. It was very well constructed and the thing that stuck out most about it was the gas shocks and the glass fireplace door on the fire box. I looked for it because i wanted to link it for everyone to see, but i was unable to find it on the forums. If some one knows were to find that one, please throw up the link.

Results are in.... Our first cook off went great. The judges didn't care much for my chicken (17th place), but they liked my ribs (1st). Pulled pork came out a little tougher then i would like. What is the normal internal temp you want to cook a Boston butt to??

Wow what an inspiration it has been. The post from pdcone and the post from hexlobular on the vertical drum with firebox are awesome ideas. Thanks for sharing. Have you been active or made any changes to the smoker lately.
