Door Mounted Brinkmann Inaccurate, What Can I do?

So everyone says the Brinkmann charcoal smoker thermometer is always inaccurate... whats a guy like me (can't build anything, mechanically handicapped) to do?

I bought a char-broil themometer (its for mounting I believe, not a probe) from the store, can I just put it inside and leave it there? Temps don't go over 275 in my smoker...

Most people get a couple of good probes to use.  After all we smoke by internal temperature of the meat NOT the Cabinet Temperature or Time...

Also you should wait until the meat is past the danger zone before inserting the probe thermometer...

You can get a good remote probe, test it in boiling h2o, then insert it through a potato or block of wood and set it on the grate to get your smoker temp.  I use an Accutherm.
