If you are going to put some insulation back in , it seems that you wouldnt have to get all the foam out, If you have your replacement insulation on the inside of the foam insulation shouldnt it keep the sprayed in insulation from getting too hot?

After all that work, do you really want to take the chance?

I didn't. I painstakingly scraped all the foam out, then used a torch to burn off what little residue remained. Then filled the gaps with Roxul and put it back together. Now I just need to replace the few plastic parts with sheet metal, put in the heating element, and I'll be good to go on mine.
