Folks, going to interject a little politics into my barbeque. I'm a teacher in Ohio. I, along with 300,000 other people in this state are under attack by our legislators who seek to destroy my union's ability to advocate for me so I can advocate for my students. As teachers, we're the first to be asked for help and the last to ask for it ourselves. That's where my union comes in.

I know many folks here are from the south, where there are right-to-work laws that deny collective bargaining rights to public (and private sector) employees, so I can understand a negative reaction to this narrative at the beginning of my post. I am against Senate Bill 5, and I am an intense union supporter, coming from a strong Republican family upbringing.

I'm not looking to get into a public political discussion. Chances are, if your feelings are strong one way or another in this matter than I won't be able to change your mind, nor will you be able to change mine. If you have questions, please feel free to message me and we can discuss it there. This is not the place for politics, this is the place for BBQ!

Why did I tell you all this? Simple. I'm having a bbq benefit to raise funds to help fight the legislation. Two positive things come out of this effort; I get to help fight SB 5, and a whole bunch of folks get to experience my bbq. It's a win-win.

So, on the menu today:

1) Applewood-smoked pulled pork (will be using SoFlaQuer's finishing sauce)

2) Applewood-smoked   wwwwchicken (to be pulled later)
3) Dutch's wicked baked beans

4) Corn on the cob

5) Sweet potato pie (that won't be done in the smoker)

So I could get done in time, I went with three butt sections from Giant Eagle. More expensive, but smaller, resulting in shorter cooking time and helping me out a great deal. The rub is at the bottom left-hand corner.

On a side note, I picked up some new hardwood charcoal, called Chefmate at Target. Good stuff. Get it if you can. About 7 for an 8lb bag.

Sounds like a great meal your putting together there Woody. I think we all realize just how important it is to have quality teachers for our children & grandchildren. Hope this all works out for you. Good luck!
