Nobody knows?  A 5" stack necked down to a 4" stack at the top.  Would you calculate the lenght based on a 4" pipe, or a 5" pipe?

Or if nobody knows the answer to that, would it hurt to have a 5" stack that is about 150% of the lenght the calculator says?  Maybe just make some way to just choke it down a little on top if needed?

I have some thoughts about it but no practical experience so this is all supposition on my part. I personally think you will be fine. With a taller chimney you should have better draw which is what you want anyway. I would not neck down the chimney to 4" and would use the 5". You could put a damper on the chimney, which you probably should anyway to keep out critters and rain when you aren't using it.

So.  I guess everyone is probably thinking that I gave up on the build by now! 

I have just been really busy.  I have managed to get the ends cut.  We have a plasma cutter at work!  That is the way to go.

Then just yesterday, my father-in-law gave me a trailer to use!!  Here are a few pics...

Here is todays progress.  I have the plate welded in the bottom, the piece of pipe started for the smokebox, and a nice uncle that let me borrow his welding rig!

Very nice.

Sounds like you have a pretty awesome family. Specially your uncle.

For the stack I have a question.

Are you wanting to neck it down right at the top of the stack? And why. 

Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I was working out of town.

Well... i figured necking down the top from 5" to 4" would allow me to make it alittle taller.  The smaller you make it the taller you make it.  Or so the calculator said... but that is really not a big issue any more either... My Father-In-Law has a piece of 4", and I am going to trade him the 5" for it.

Thats cool. 

I think I forgot to mention, awesome trailer for the smoker.

Is it going to be long enough for the smoker or will you have to extend the tongue?

Actually the smoker is going to go on the back of the trailer, side to side.  I am going to mount 2 vertial pipes, and weld 2 on the back of the smoker that are a little bigger.  Then it will just hang on there.  I will just use the front end loader to put it on the trailer.  That way I can take it on and off if I want to use the trailer for something else.  I plan to make a stand for it as well at the house, and it will probably stay there most of the time.

He Mister, did you go to my house while ai was at work and grab my Willys Jeep Trailer

  I have used my trailer to haul quite a few Moose out that decided not to run when they heard the twaange of my bow string. Great solid trailer, how about checking the little silver tag on the inside of the frame rail next to the kick stand. it should have a date stamp, talk about history....
