First Pork Butt Qview

I picked up a 6.18 lb pork butt $2.18/lb at Wal-Mart and rubbed it with 2 oz Jeff’s Naked Rib Rub. I’ve wanted to do a pork butt for over a year now. This was the first piece of pork the AmeriQue has seen and I have to say it was well worth the wait. I was surprised at how long it took to come to temperature compared to beef. I used 4 oz of apple and smoked the first 10 ½ hours at 225⁰ then cranked it up to 250⁰. It took another 2 hours to bring the internal temp to 200⁰

The dreaded pork butt gland (Lymph node)

The lymph node and associated fatty material removed. I also removed most of the fat cap.

It was so tender the bone fell out of it.  I added a half cup of AJ before foiling and wrapping with a towel for an hour

It pulled nicely, was juicy, quite tender, and very tasty. A little slaw and it's ready to eat

I’ve been told it’s against the law to serve smoked pulled pork without smoke baked beans

nice job !

Glad the butt turned out. The beans look great as well. I bet PP will be on menu more often after doing that one.

Did you put that plastic type container with the beans right in the smoker? We have some of those at home but I as afraid to put it in the smoker as I though it might stain it so bad and the wife wouldn't be to happy about that.

Thanks for the comments.

Ross, I used to use disposable aluminum pans to do my baked beans in.

One day I was out of them and I “needed” to do a batch of beans so I borrowed one of Mama’s glass dishes.

The beans were good, but I’m still hearing about Mama’s dish.            duck.gif

I picked up a set of these cheap silicon pans just for use in my smoker.

They hold up quite well I must say.

The loaf pan is just the right size for a large can of Bush’s baked beans, a can of black beans, and a few other odds and ends to tweak the beans into perfection, and they clean up right nice.   beercheer.gif
