Jeff  have you ever considered putting  members in areas or  districts from around  the usa. Maybe 4 or 5 of these so members could see where people live in case  they like to get together  for some bbq. ,or  join a club ect.. just  a idea !!!!

What  you  think fellow bbq members  would  this idea fly...i'm interested  to find  out..

We used to have a pin map that was pulled into a module with vBulletin that showed where all of us lived but the dot com company that supplied the pin map went under and there went the map.

This was brought up again a while back and I am actively searching for a solution that will give us those same capabilities. I think it is a wonderful thing to have for a forum like this.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know and I will be happy to check it out.
 
I'm not sure exactly on active members since this platform does not calculate the metrics in the same way that vBulletin did however, we use to run about 1500 to 2000 actives per 30 day period then. We have over 24,000 actual registered members.
 
Maybe something can be done using Google Maps? I know they have several maps on there used to plot all types of subject matter... not sure, but maybe a private one for SMF... (& I dont see Google going out of biz anytime soon LOL)

Yea I was going to say wouldn't Google Earth have something we could. I know I used it last fall to print out a layout of our land and put all of our deer stands with push pins so we could see where the stands where on the aerial photo.

John, I'm not sure.. the link is working fine for me. Is anyone else having trouble with the above link to maps.google.com.. in John's last post?
 
I just put in a feature request for a way to map users built into the Huddler platform.. I think that would be really great. Meantime, I will look into Google's "My Maps" to see if we can make that work in the short term.

Thanks for all the ideas.. keep 'em coming if you find something else that might work.
 
thanks jeff  for  responding... i hope my idea catches on and works... it's  would  be fun and interesting to see  where everyone lives...like this site more friendship  could be formed...
 
Why not have it set where City and State are a required field in member profiles...  that way it would show on the posts...
