Testing rp RibKings rub

Thread Starter

I was asked to test a rub for one of our members and here is the first test on the rub. I took 2# of chicken wings and washed and dried them well then hit them with a fair amount of rub and into the smoker at 225 for about 1:45. Temps hit 165 and I pulled the ribs and covered them in a bowl with some plastic wrap for about 15 minutes due to my being busy doing something else.

Here is a pic of the ribs in the bowl. I must say this is a nice rub so far. No salt in the rub and has a nice front end flavor with a nice kick on the back side from cajun and cayanne.  So far a nice rub. Will save the rest for some pork

Sounds good, Gary.  I'm glad you posted this as I have a sample also.  Just haven't had decent enough weather to try it out yet.  I like the idea of no sugar in the rub.  I have a large package of thighs in the freezer I'm thinking of trying it on.

I have a sample as well. Unfortunately, I've been so busy lately I haven't had a chance to try it on any meat. But from what I tasted when I got the sample, I like it very much. There's a nice balance of flavours, with different tastes playing off of each other the more it sits in the mouth. There's just enough salt from the BBQ seasoning & Cajun spice, that it enhances the other flavours, but doesn't get in the way of them. I could see this as a very nice base where one could add some sugar if you wanted more sweet flavour.

Scar, That plate looks tantalizing, wish I had some.
