Good morning everyone and happy new year,

I am hosting the youth group from our church for some new years bowl games and bbq. Weather is not good, rained all night and no let up in sight for this morning either. I loaded the WSM up last night and put a 9 lb butt on. I got up at 3 a.m. and the smoker was holding 275, went back to sleep and got up at 5:30 to find my smoker at 185. The butt was already at 165 so I took it off and will just finish it in the oven at 250. I know it's not real smart to try to bbq in pouring rain but I have done this before and the WSM pulled through like a champ. I still have to do 4 racks of babybacks and don't have a lot of confidence in my smoking abilities in this weather. This is the most people I have ever bbq'd for and really don't want to ruin it. I'm thinkin all I can do is light up another chimney and give the ribs 2.5 hours to smoke and then into the oven with them also. Any advice?

Thanks,

Landon

I am hoping the "into the oven" part is wrapped well in foil???

Then finish the ribs in the oven like you would in the smoker, and take the butt to 205˚ for pulling.

That's my short answer,

Sounds to me like you know what you are doing,  you just need a

A little confidence goes a long way!

And remember, young people are pretty easy to cook for.  You could always make up some pizza dough, throw some pulled pork on it, a bit of red sauce and cheese.  Instant hit!  If all you can do is a couple of hours of smoke on the ribs, foil them with a bit of moisture and finish in the oven, toss em on a hot grill and crisp them up a bit.  The bigger the mess the better so have extra sauce around.

yes, everything is/will be foiled in the oven with some juice. I should have mentioned that earlier. It kinda hurts my pride a little to have to finish in the oven but thats better than ruining the food I guess. Thanks for the responses.

That's a good plan - I would try to keep them in the WSM as long as you can - I think you will do just fine!
