MES meat probe

If I have my temp in the smoker at 160 nothing in it. And I would hit the meat probe to check the temperature should it read the same as the temp posted on the display that shows what the smoker is at??

Not really, depends on where the probe is sitting . Also, the mes probe is known to be a little off of true temps Especially at low temps. Mine seems to get pretty close once the meat starts getting up in temps.

Yup---What Eman said.

My Maverick probes I think respond to temp changes quicker than the MES "in wall" smoker sensor does, because the changing air runs by it more, but later when the whole thing settles out, they get real close to each other.

The built in meat probe seems to be right on when in meat, but just laying around it could be doing strange things, especially if the tip is against metal.

Ok I just took notice to that. I have it in the holder and hit the button for the meat probe just to see what it would read, it was like 148 and the temp read 160 on the outside.
Bear did 2 batches of jerky so far and the 3rd one is on there now.. No moisture problem jerky is taking about 11hrs and there is no taste difference that I can tell.
Syne I will sVe some money on electricity because it's nor calling for as much now.

Sounds good ajb----Now try putting some smoke on a batch (after the surface is dry).  wink.gif

All 3 batches turned out about the same.. I was happy with them. The last batch might have been alittle to long, about 12hrs. Turned out alittle more dryer, I wasn't home to keep an eye on it
