Electric smoker for cured meats

Thread Starter

Looking to get a smoker for my parents as a christmas gift.  Mainly for cured meats, sauasage, hams, etc.  But also for the occasional brisket.  What would y'all recommend?  I see a lot of posts about MES.  But Im not sure how low the temps get in it.  I cant seem to find a website for the manufaturer.    Any help would be appreciated.

High Temps get to 275*

I can set mine at 100* and it runs perfect, but does not smoke at these low temps.

SAMS Club has a great deal on the 40" right now for $298.  Comes with a remote, wheels and a handle.  Tough to beat that deal!

Got one to add to my collection a couple weeks ago.

Masterbuilt web site is outdated. But here is the link. http://www.masterbuilt.com/  . They have not updated it with the new models. You can get the 30'' or the 40'' MES locally. They are a very good product and are very easy to use. They are also a great starter smoker for someone that has never smoked before. I gave one as a gift to parents and they love it. The temp can be set from 100 to 275. I do most of my smoking at 225.

What about this masterbuilt electic at cabella's?  Its listed at $199.

Tjohnson, do you think it would smoke at, say, about 150-160F?

Is it possible to modify it somehow to cold smoke below 100F?

For cold smokes in the MES the AMS is the way to go.

You can pick up a new MES 40'' at Sam's for $289. Bass pro shop has a new MES 30'' for $179 on black Friday.

I would like to recommand a propane  GOSM unit. It's nice and self contained and easy to use too. Now it's as close to a set it and forget it that  you can get.

Is that possible, set and forget anything burning with a propane gas burner....?  I guess if your thinking the tank will eventually run out of gas, and the burner then stops burning....  Personally anything operating with gas I'm paying attention too.
