I stumbled across this site, while researching how to smoke a turkey. This is a great forum, snooped around a bit, a thought why not. I would finally be affiliated with a group of people who actually know what they are doing, and have probably been through/had the same questions I am having. So, I am a 42yr old woman, living in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains here in Oregon,  I am a vet tech, and have been for the past 12 years.. This past summer my husband bought me the Char-Griller Duo Professional series, and said "Hey Honey, you should try some competetion BBQ!" Ummmm, ok. Have never competed before, but we have a lot of little competetions around this area, so maybe next summer. we shall see. I love to bbq, and with this new grill i have discovered the joy of smoking.  YAY! So far, i have smoked: ribs, steaks, fish, veggies and potatoes. Getting ready to smoke a turkey for thanksgiving, so gonna do a practice run on some chickens this weekend. (BTW, the husband does no cooking, for some reason he has the ability to burn water.)

Welcome to SMF!

The hubby doesn't know what he is missing!

Down here in south Louisiana The men cook just as much as the women, Sometimes more.

To us cooking is a way to show off our skills ( Guess smokers are the same way).

Men cooking here is usually outside w/ our friends (who also cook ) usually w/ lots of adult beverages . Big pots and lot's of fun . I guess this comes from all the men being at the camp.

Most of the women woul;d rather cook in the kitchen.

My dad couldn't boil water w/o burning it and when mom died 3 years b4 him he really wished he'd learned to cook.

Welcome!  I am the only man that does the smokin' at my house, I do live alone thou, anyway at this site you will be come addicted to smokin' with all of the info.

Welcome again!

First off Welcome Girl friend to SMF. You'll like it here for there are alot of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking. Now there are alot of proven recipes for some amazing things here too. So if you need sign up for the E-Course it's free and it will give you the basics of smoking and some good methods to use also. So the next big thing for you to do is go out and get you something to smoke and if you happen to have any questions just post it here and we will be happy to answer them for you.

Welcome To Your New Addiction

Welcome girlfriend!! Yay! Another chicklet! We are soooo catching up with you guys! You'll love it here. We have a good time and I'm learning something new every day. Glad to have you with us.

Welcome to the forum, I'm just a little west of you in Portland. If you are looking to compete in this area you might want to look on the Pac. NW BBQ Assoc. home page and see what area events are coming up, then swing by and see what people are doing.

Also if you call Woodstock Wine & Deli (in Portland) and ask for Craig, he is a member of the Pac. NW BBQ Assoc., and he sponsors a local BBQ class or two every couple of months, it is a great way to learn how to use a smoker, and learn about competing and/or judging - think the classes are about $50 (they provide everything).

Don't forget to check out he mods you can make to the Char-grillers in the Charcoal Smokers section, they really make a big differance on how well the Char-grillers performe.

PS - Oh yeah.... forgot to mention.... WATCH OUT FOR THE SQUIRREL!
