Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18.5-Inch Smoker Reviews

The King

Pros: temp control, lump usage, end product, ease of use, availability, information available

Cons: none

Easily the best smoker out there for under $400.00.   Its charcoal not electric, or gas, thats its 1st & biggest advantage.  You are using a smoker, not an oven that smokes.   Great bbq flavor,  a miser on fuel,  easily holds 225 for 9-10 hours in all weather conditions.    I sold all my other smokers when I got the WSM,  they were just wasting space since they were never going to be used again.

The best smoker to begin on

Pros: Easy to use, holds temps for a long time, seems economical on fuel,

Cons: none worth mentioning here

I was given this smoker about eight years ago by my father in law, it was about 25 years old at the time and had never been used, so it was "new".  This is the only smoker that I have ever owned personally (may dad has a couple homemade ones).     This smoker is easy to get up to temp, and regulates fairly quickly.  I hardly ever have to use more than one vent to regulate the temps once it is up to temp.  I basically use the minion method.   1 10 lb bag of RO lump can last for about 18-20 hrs (can't get it all in there at once).  I have made a Chute out of a piece of tin and put an old door handle on it to add charcoal easier.  I can load...

Mine is the old model

Pros: Almost everything

Cons: The latch on the door is a pain to keep adjusted.

I have the older model - no heat shield or thermometer, but on the other hand it was only $179 back when I bought it. As others have said, it's easy to use, you don't  have to watch it like  a hawk to maintain a steady temperature. I have made a  few modifications: Guru eyelets for thermometer probes, handles on the middle section,  a waterless pan mod (old-style small WSM water pan mounted on top of the pan from a Brinkmann Gourmet I used to have), and one of the Brinkmann cooking  grates set on top of the charcoal grate (crossways) to keep small pieces of lump from falling through. I also  have a Stoker, which you don't really need but I won it  for...

The best product for meat smoking!

Pros: It is simple and easy to use. It is well made. It is strong and durable. The parts are easy to assemble. It is effective because it works very well.

Cons: Many people who use the product are happy with it.

Quote:  It is evident that Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18 inches are the best product for meat smoking. It can grill more than one item at once because it has provision for grilling different types of meats at a time. It is simple and very easy to use, clean and maintain. It is durable; it is a good device, which you can make part of your home.

Lovin' my 18.5" WSM

Pros: Simplicity of use, efficient usage of charcoal(be it lump or biquet)

Cons: None to date

I made a couple of mods before I initially seasoned my WSM. Namely, a gasket kit, a second charcoal grate, mounted together with a pair of 8" eye bolts, to make removal/cleanup easier and a smaller drip pan.   The WSM has made everything I've smoked in it taste sensational. It is easy to maintain even temperatures and burns charcoal efficiently Very happy to have joined the ranks of WSM owners.

Best Bang For The Buck!

Pros: Competition quality smoker. Turns out fabulous ribs, pork butt, brisket. sausage, ham.

Cons: Not insulated, so wind, cold and rain can affect temp control.

I had a pellet cooker and it was great for convenience. Fill the hopper with pellets, plug it in and turn it on. But my pellets cooker just couldn't give me the real smoke flavor I was looking for. I sold it and bought the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker (WSM). I love it. Would never go back to a pellet cooker. If you love your pellet cooker - great! But if you want "real" BBQ flavor - give this a try. If you don't like it - they re-sell (at near face value) instantly on Craigslist and Ebay. Heck, call me. I'll buy yours.

Awesome smoker. Why did I wait so long?

Pros: Durability. Able to maintain temperature. Vents all over to adjust temp.

Cons: Nothing.

With all the other reviews on the Internet and here about this smoker, there's nothing I have to add that wasn't said already. It rocks!!

Love My WSM

Pros: Heat Control, Ease of Use, Able to do lots of meat at one time, you just set it and forget it.

Cons: The smaller one's door is a little restricting, but this is not a major problem.

I started out with a ECB, and I found an 18.5 WSM on Craiglist for $200.00. It had been used 5 or 6 times which means I didnt have to season it. There is no comparison with this to my other smoker. I love being able to use the minion method which gives me long smokes with little to no attention. It will also do quite a bit of meat. I can easily fit 4 full Boston Butts on it (~8lb each). Clean up and set up are very easy. I would highly recommend one. I will be getting the larger on too just so I can have the option of a larger cooking capacity. I do quite a bit of cooking for other people. › Smokers & More › Smokers › Vertical Charcoal Smokers › Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18.5-Inch Smoker › Weber 721001 Smokey Mountain Cooker 18.5-Inch Smoker Reviews
