Weber 711001 Smokey Mountain Cooker Smoker, 14.5-Inch

100% Positive Reviews

Pros: Easy to use, easy to assemble, real charcoal flavor

Cons: Smaller size doesn't work well with all cuts of meat

Although I have loved to eat since I was knee high to a grasshopper, this is my first smoker, and so far it's been a blast. My only regret is I didn't buy the next size up. I tried to do my research and ask around, and WSM's kept getting rave reviews. Now I am a true believer. The instruction manual was easy to follow and my very first smoke (brisket) was spot on. Weber knows what they're doing. Very easy to use even for a beginner. Seriously consider this model when shopping. grilling_smilie.gif

Pros: Well made, with nice finish, built in thermometer is accurate, uses very little charcoal, two grates, can hold temp for 7-8 hours, grommet for probes

Cons: a little susceptible to wind

I currently have a New Braunfels offset, a Weber WSM 22.5 and I built a mini WSM from a Smokey Joe Gold. When I heard this was coming out I knew I had to have one!

I got one of the first ones the BBQ Barn in Arlington MA got in. It was easy to put together. I tied the charcoal ring to the grate to make it easy to shake out the ash and save the remaining coals.

My first cook was a 4 pound butt, it came out great.  I have done 4 racks of ribs cut in half and a 6 pound chicken with ease (not at the same time as the ribs) If you roll the ribs I feel you can get 6 racks on this thing. I can do 24 chicken wings or 10-12 quarters.

It is really easy to move around and easy to clean.

Now that there are just two of us in the house most times, this smoker is perfect.  I feel it can easily make enough food for up to 6 people with ease.

It is a bit susceptible to wind, when I used it when it was 25 degrees out with a 25-30 mile an hour wind with gusts the temp fluctuated somewhat. I got  a water heater blanket that made a nice wind screen and wrap for it.

I highly recommend it.

Tough winter but the 14.5 handled being buried in snow all winter and fired up fine, the 3 foot drift that was left made a good windbreak
