Smoking Meat: The Essential Guide to Real Barbecue Reviews

Rob Sicc

Excellent book, specifically for this beginner

Pros: The layout is very well thought out.

Cons: didn't find any. I'm sure tohers might but I liked it because it gave me exactly what I was looking for.

I like this book alot.   I am new to smoking and this book was recommended to me by numerous people. now that I have it I see why. It walks the beginner step by step from building the fire, starting the smoker, picking the wood, right upt to eating.  lol The book shows how to smoke giving examples for 3 different types of smokers.  I thought that was brilliant. I likes the large assortments of rubs recipes, sauce recipes, and other dishes.   If you are a beginner this is the first book your should buy.  If you like cookbooks this should be in your collection.  If you like cookbooks, get this book.  it's a good read

Great book for the Noob Smoker!

Pros: Great recipes, insightful tips, everything a noob needs to know

Cons: The pages stick together from constant use

This book was a  fantastic way to learn about smoking.  As someone being new to the game, I learned much about the process of smoking.  This book not only provides excellent, tasty (I can atest) and simple recipes, but also explains the 'why' of it all.  I would certainly recommend this book for anyone who is new to smoking meats.  It provides easy to follow and logical guidelines, and recipes that are easily tweaked to put a personal touch on things.  5 stars all the way.

Favorite book

Pros: Easy to read, great charts

Have been hunting the local book stores for months without success and gave up. Last weekend we were at the mall for a completely unrelated matter when I figured that I'd take a chance. FINALLY. Made a few smokes during my recent days off. Complete successes and with Jeff's rub recipe I bought a couple weeks ago, I've found my MOJO.    Recipes are easy to use. Charts with temperature and times could come in very handy. No shortage of ideas to try. With this book, a person could literally open a smokehouse diner ;).   With the SM forums, Jeff's email recipes and this book I can always have a great Q.

Great book for learning how to smoke

Pros: I like how it gives you all the recipes for food you would love and easily explains how to do it.

Cons: None

It is a great book, easy to understand and easy to follow. I hope people appreciate how much time goes into making a recipe perfect, even small changes are huge in the taste. I have loved every recipe I have tried so far, and of course they are a start but I always tweak them to make them taste the way I love food to taste.  LOL

good-informative-easy to follow

Pros: well organized, easy to locate items of interest and in general, informative

Cons: you would think a book on smoking meat would have a section on curing and smoking Bacon- lots of recipe's for using bacon but nothing on makin bacon

I was hoping to find a good recipe on bacon- i.e. cuts of meat, curing process and smoking--after all bacon is the #1 consumed meat.  I take exception to the comment on mastering smoked salmon--way off on that comment and recipe.
