Oregon Scientific Wireless BBQ Theremometer AW129

Pros: nice doorstop

Cons: doesn't work. Replacement doesn't work

transmitter and receiver won't sync.  Multiple resets might work, until the units are powered down.  Replacement unit equally bad.  Avoid this product.

Yes, flounderhead, I did what you suggested.  Over and over.  Worked maybe 10% of the time.  With the ORIGINAL receiver and the REPLACEMENT transmitter.  All other combinations failed.  By the time the thermometer was finally synced, my meat would be burned.  Both the original and replacement units.  Maybe you were lucky and got a combination that happened to work.  Go to amazon.com and find the huge number of similar reviews if you're uncertain.

Pros: Cost, availability, range

Cons: No hanger for transmitter,

I picked this up yesterday. I smoked my first chicken on ECB today. I wanted to make sure I had a good temp. I read good reviews of other wireless thermometers in the forum but they were not to be found.  This was in stock at the Bass Pro Shop, about 20 minutes from my house.  The price was not bad so I figured it was worth a try.

Pretty simple set up. Synched up transmitter and receiver. Select the meat. One draw back or benefit, you do not set the temp. All temps are preset by the type of meat. Beef. Lamb, Turkey, Pork, Chicken and Hamburger. You can then set if you want it rare, medium and well done  If you are going to cook chicken or hamburger you do not have the option to change to rare, medium or well done. Only well done. It has a default setting. That can be good or bad.

It worked well with good range for burgers I did yesterday and the chicken I did today.  The only thing I did not like is the transmitter is is designed to sit on a shelf. With my ECB no shelf exist so I just wrapped the cord around the handle and made that into a hanger.  So it worked.

It does what it is suppose to do with good range, 100' it does not do 300' and it comes with only one probe. So there are better options but for more cost. Considering the cost I think it was not a bad deal.
