Pros: Large grill and high area allowing for two levels, Good heat maintenance, extra thick ceramic, stainless steel fittings
Cons: Had cracked firebox early on (replaced for free), years outside and much use had paint bubbles which resulted in a couple of bare outside patches
I've had this for 8 years, and have loved it the entire time. I decided to get a Kamado Grill and was leaning (of course) towards the only one of which I knew (BGE), but decided to do a little research. I came upon a series of videos (youtube) from a company in the south that sold these (and also sold the BGE), which compared the two, and they were compelling. The Grill Dome had MUCH thicker ceramic than the BGE, AND all stainless steel fittings AND was $100 less AND was bigger (higher) allowing for more room for a second level.
It has been outside the entire time, and I don't put a cover over it when not in use, although it sits beneath a roof which I had built on my back deck, so it doesn't get rained or snowed upon, and doesn't get any appreciable amount of direct sunlight. The firebox had a slight crack in it either when it was received or soon thereafter, about which I did nothing. Eventually, it became large enough to affect things so I contacted Grill Dome (AFTER the warrantee period) and they replaced it FOR FREE.
The ONLY negative thing I have to say is the some of the paint started to bubble a bit as things expanded and contracted, and eventually came off, so I have a couple of bare spots (one of which can be seen in one of the photos I've posted). It's possible that these couple of spots occurred due to micro-cracks in the top. Still, I've noticed no deterioration in performance throughout those 8 years. If I were to purchase another smoker, I'd do my research, but I'd absolutely consider getting another Grill Dome. Very pleased with it overall.
