Pros: Simple to use after a short read of the instructions, small and can sit on the counter if you'd like, sharpened my Cutco and Dexter knives
Cons: I honestly can't think of any right now.
I bought this sharpener to get around having to send my Cutco knives back to get them sharpened. I had a gift card already loaded in Amazon so all in all the sharpener only cost me $32 bucks, and I figure I'll have a need to sharpen other knives other than my Cutco so why not. I got it on Sunday and read the instructions and used it right away. I can say that I am very impressed with it. The instruction were simple and short. The sharpener is very easy to use. Simply start at the heel of the knife and lightly glide it through the sharpener the specified amount of times.
As as example of the effect of the sharpener, before sharpening the Cutco chef's knife and while chopping bell peppers, the knife would "break" the skin rather than slice. When chopping, the knife was constantly hitting the cutting board very loud because it wasn't actually slicing through and the force would cause the knife to hit the board hard. After sharpening the knife, I tested the knife by taking a piece of bell pepper and holding it in my left hand. With my right hand, I held the knife at the top of the pepper resting the heel of the knife on it. I then pulled the knife from heel to tip and sliced all the way through to the bottom of the pepper. While doing this, I applied zero pressure other than the simple weight of the knife. It was sharp!
I am very happy with this piece and I'll be using it often!
