Vertical Charcoal Smokers

Meco 5031 Charcoal Combo Water Smoker

Decent unit as a first time one to see how serious you want to get Hard to control heat due to so much loss around the sliding door & cover lid

W2HR

Pros: USA made to best of my knowledge, Reasonable construction, easy to assemble, NO MISSING PARTS (a first) Relitively easy to move & is quite lite,

Cons: Slidder door/access to heat sorce & water dish has a lot of air leak & hard to control heat, The fit on the lid is also rather sloppy.

I purchased this smoker to again give smoking a try. I had been a avid meat/fish smoker years ago long before all of the temperature controlled available smokers & temperature monitoring equipment was available. I think I made my first one from a couple Brinkman pieces & added a salvaged propane burner to start my wood, quite primitive but accomplished a lot very good & delicious...

“Had a Char-Griller offset for a year, then got the WSM 22.5". It was almost criminal how much easier this thing is to use. I ran a 14 hr. brisket, plus additional 2 hrs. of burnt ends, and I still had 1/4-1/3 of my charcoal left!   This somoker is such a joy to use that you will find yourself making excuses to find reasons to fire it up...heh-heh. ” --JIRodriguez

“This is actually a review of the previous model (no built-in thermometer, etc.).    What can I say that hasn't already been said about the venerable WSM?  It's priced like an entry level smoker but performs with the best of them.  At some point I'll adopt more modern technology (Traeger wood pellets?) or a larger smoker (Old Country?) but for feeding 8-12 friends efficiently, the WSM is hard to...” --HudL

Brinkmann 852-7080-6 Gourmet Charcoal Smoker and Grill, Green

“After some modifications to the smoker, it works great. Put new temp gauge in the lid and put one in the door. Plus, because it uses a lot of charcoal, also modified the charcoal pan by installing 4 bolts about an inch up and setting a 13" grate on top. That way ashes did not smother the coals and you can use less. Although you have to monitor this smoker the end result is fantastic BBQ!  Have...” --KC1982

“ 1 of my favorite things to do is smoke meat. I have 3 smokers that I really enjoy. Smoking meat is an art that most serious smokers work hard to perfect.Temp is a huge factor in the smoking process and if you are a beginner I will say that this is not what you are looking for . Unless of course you like finishing meat in the oven ” --Bill Kellems

GrillPro 31840 Heavy-Duty Vertical Charcoal Smoker

“This smoker really does suck... that having been said, the basics are all there for you to make it useful.  As you will find out, if you use it in it's recommended configuration, you will find it very difficult to get this baby up to 200 degrees F.  The good thing is that you can pick them up used on craigslist for a steal! SO, you must rearrange it a bit to make it useable. ...” --mwolf1

“Although I have loved to eat since I was knee high to a grasshopper, this is my first smoker, and so far it's been a blast. My only regret is I didn't buy the next size up. I tried to do my research and ask around, and WSM's kept getting rave reviews. Now I am a true believer. The instruction manual was easy to follow and my very first smoke (brisket) was spot on. Weber knows what they're...” --Cornman

“I got this smoker to get started smoking on the cheap.  To be honest you really need to do two things to this smoker (at a minimum) to make it a decent smoker.   1. get a grate for the charcoal and elevate it from the bottom of the charcoal pan.   I used the charcoal grate from my Weber "Smokey Joe" it fit perfectly, I added three equal sized rocks to keep it about 4 inches from...” --SnowAviation
