Happy Smoker

Pros: good clean smoke and time control

Cons: a little slow on recovery,

Mine has more than paid for itself.  As with any of these types of smokers, a guy has to know their limitations and advantages.  None of them will perform great if the outside temp is cold or if packed solid with meat, and you open the door every few minutes.  When I smoke in cold weather, I do the smoke and then transfer to the oven.  No big deal. I have smoked 50 - 60 pork butts, many ribs, Canadian bacon, pastrami, turkeys, chickens, and fish. It is a low and slow smoker, not a high heat oven.  I would buy another.  The Bradley forum is a good place to see how others use it.

So Far, So Good

Pros: Good Price, Ease of Use, Temp Control

Cons: little narrow for large cuts of meat

I have had the Bradley for one month and have put it through the initial test runs.  I have smoked spare ribs, Boston butt, and corned beef.    This device has met my expectations.  I do low and slow with my device and need the convenience of the self-feeding puck system.  The puck system can load up for 8 hours of uninterrupted smoking.  Reviews state that you should have a quality digital thermometer of which I agree.  This is not the device for high heat smokes as it tops out at 250 which is ideal for my needs.  This smoker resembles a college fridge that has been outfitted into a smoker.  The contents make it simple to operate, easy...

Works for me with a few mods!

Pros: Easy to use and delivers the results expected.

Cons: Could do with a higher rated heating element.

Wanted a decent electric smoker that was almost setup, start and let it do its job with miminal intervention! Is it perfect no but as I live in Scotland weather is a challenge at times so had a family friend take one of his fire log sheds and modify it as a unit for my smoker with pull out work table top and protection from the elements. While the heating / smoking system is useable I did add a PID to have better control and management of the heating unit! As I have a home made 12' pit made from a large piece of casing and a Weber just wanted something a bit smaller for smoking meats.

Negative Reviews

Pros: Good smoke, ease of operation

Cons: Too small, poor quality

I replaced my Masterbuilt smoker with this Bradley. the size is too small, you can barely get a good sized brisket in it. It worked pretty good for a about a year and then the heating element went out. as I was leaning the unit back to check the element the door broke off. it is now in the landfill.

Low temps

Pros: Good smoke flavor, set it and forget

Cons: Bad quality, low temps

Amidst many happy users, there are some that have failed to achieve good cooking temperatures. I am one of them.  The unit works great for small loads (one/two rib racks), but can not keep up when fully loaded. I tried two pork shoulders and after 14 hours they were not nearly ready.  After putting them into preheated smoker, it took almost three hours for the temp to get to 200.  It never reach the temp above 210.   I was very disappointed in quality as well. The gasket on the door disintegrated after three uses.  Bradley sent me a replacement, same thing happened.  The temp controller housing cracked after three months.  The replacement had the same fate.    I ended up selling...

Decent smoker for casual user

Pros: Fully automatic, set it up and walk away

Cons: Original temp controller would go above 230'

I love the fact that you can load it up and it automatically feeds the pucks in. You can literally walk away and let it work. Especially nice on long/overnight smokes. I ordered this instead of the digital with the intentions of using the Auber PID to control it. The cost of the 2 together were very close to the cost of the digital. Many reviews led me to believe the auber was far superior to the Bradley controller. I set up the Bradley with the stock analog controller and found that it could not heat to more than 230'. I took a voltage measurement of the output and found that turned all the way up I was only getting a 85% output voltage. I contacted customer service and the were willing...

My First Smoker.

Pros: Easy to move, setup and operate.

Cons: Slow temperature recovery when cold out. Somewhat flimsy construction.

The Bradley BTIS1 is a good way to introduce oneself to the process of smoking food. The unit, while light in weight is somewhat flimsily constructed, and will definitely not handle overloading / abuse. On a warm day (25 C) it recovered within ten minutes, however on a cold day (9 C) it took close to an hour and a half. As my first smoker, I am satisfied with it, but I would definitely purchase a different one next time around.

This has been a great smoker for sausage and other cool or cold smoking. It leaves a little to be desired for smoker cooking.

Pros: Auto feed, cold smoke capable, easy to move around

Cons: Slow heat recovery, hard to maintain over 200 degrees, pucks a bit pricey

I have had this smoker for a long time, I'm not sure of the date I got it.  The smoker was purchase for smoking sausage during the winter.  I put it in a shed with a smoke stack and it does a great job for this purpose.  I tried to use it for smoker cooking and it struggled to get baby back ribs done in 6 hours.  It was impossible to keep the heat at 225.

Beyond Incredible

Pros: Does everything except eat the food for you.

Cons: Slow temperature recovery if it's cold outside.

I've had the OBS for about 1 1/2 months. I've used it about 20 times, and it has performed flawlessly. When the temperature outside is in the 20 to 30 degree range, the temp. inside the unit will drop by 80 or 90 degrees if I open the door for more than a couple of seconds. If that happens, it can take an hour, or more, for the unit to return to the desired temp. I have mine in my unheated garage. I solved the problem by buying a space heater, and keeping the garage in the 70 to 75 degree range whenever I'm smoking foods with the Bradley. I've smoked pork, poultry, beef, fish, and vegetables. Everything I've smoked has been a revelation in flavor. I never knew that food could taste this...
