It's friday and yes I stoped by the packing house again. I picked up some spareribs to smoke tomorrow and when I got them home I was like a blind dog in a meat house, just didn't know what I wanted to do with them. So......I made up some crab boil that will gag you, with lemon juice, put my ribs in and covered in the fridge overnight. Hope they taste good.

Never know RIP, might turn out good, something different. Keep us informed.
  3. RIP,

Did you use the liquid concentrate or the boil in a bag?

I live down here in S. La. and use Zatarans on everything we boil, shrimp, crabs and crayfish.

The liquid concentrate is hell for stout, a little bit goes along ways.

    Good Luck,

RIP, Keep us informed as to how the ribs turn out. My bet is that you will like them. Where is this packing house? Is it owned by one of the biggies? I hope that I am not being too nosey, but my son works for Cryovac in Greenville, SC and I know that sometimes he goes to Tenn. to work on equipment or check out some packaging problem on a product line.

Rip, I've used a pre-mix that I put in a muslin bag and boiled it, later used the liquid as a marinade for chicken and ribs. It turned out very flavorful and compatible. Nice assortment of spices in the mix, here's the link

It is the liquid, When I learned to make frogmore stew I was told to put some crab boil in and taste if it didn't gag you then keep adding and tasting until it does. So thats what I did with this and then added about 6oz of lemon juice. I am using it like a brine, ribs are covered in it and in the fridge.
Goat, this is a local packing house, they sell to the stores, meat markets, and the public. Very good cuts of meat and cheaper than most stores.

I think it's going to turn out great. I read on the web where TulsaJeff was going to add it to his turkey brine, but couldn't find a follow-up on how it tasted.

Sounds pretty good RIP... let us know how they turn out...

If you like that crab taste try Old Bay.... i eat that on a lot of stuff....
when i moved to Florida it was kinda hard to find but some stores carried it... It is pretty popular around MD .... it's made and packaged in Baltimore...

Hey RIP...I use Old Bay quite often as a rub, in addition to a boil. Similar to Zatarans but it only comes dry. I'll bet they will be good!
