Hello everyone!

My name is Phil, I'm from Canada (Quebec, where it's cold!).

I'm new to smoking, although I LOVE all kind of smoked food.

After a few unsuccessful attempts at smoking with my propane BBQ grill, I decided I needed a smoker, a real smoker! I also decided I needed experts' advice so here I am!!

Thanks in advance for your help, hopefully I'll learn quickly!!

cheers!

Phil

Welcome.

What type of smoker do you want?

You have time to add wood for a stick burner?

You want a set it and for get it?

How many people will you be cooking for?

I would say get a stick burner because that's all I've ever had  In the end it really doesn't matter because you will have more than one or five!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

To answer some of C farmer's questions, I'm leaning toward an electric just because I will like (and need) the ability to just set it and forget it. I have a large family of 6 so that mean I need something bigger than a countertop smoker...

I have no clue what a stick burner is so I'll have to do some (more) research!

I posted some questions on the forum for new members... feel free to answer them there!

Thanks again!

a stick burner is a smoker that uses wood as its main fuel source. Definitely not set and forget!

Welcome to the board, Phil!

A propane grill isn't good for smoking because they're made to breathe - you can't close vents to control the fire. That's because there's no thermocouple so if the flame snuffs out, the gas still goes ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss  BOOM

Ok, make sense.

Thank you very much for answering my question!
