Workin on the Grill w/Qview

I have a Charmglow 4 burner SS grill and the burners on this and most others do not last!!!!! Charmglow/Brinkman wanted $40.00 per 2 burners for replacement which is outragious, that's $80.00 to replace some cheap azz burners that do not last!!!!!
So I found these cast iron burners made by Char-Broil for $20.00 each (got them from Home Depot) and started cutting out the old burners with a cutting/grinding wheel as all the holding screws were rusted to badly to remove any other way. I then measured the distance needed and cut down the square ignition tubes to allow enough room and electric ignition of the larger new cast iron burners. Mounted the new burners and tested them out, they are working great so far and will long outlast the grill itself.

With everything working safely and properly I finished cleaning things up and gave it a test run.

Here are the results using a boneless rib eye steak for the experiment.


The experiment was a success, a great rare steak. Unfortunately the test subject was destroyed by a set of choppers. LOL
It was delicious and now the grill is cooking evenly and ready for some action.

Nice looking re build. Man were those old burners ever toast.

Makes ya wonder why they don't build them quality like you did.

And those were as they put it "Quality SS burners"....
Anyone who really uses their grill knows present designed burners are junk and the cause of most grill fires. Those burners were only 1 1/2 years old...

Thats a very nice job there steve. You know what they say about mother nature it's the nessity if invention. So looks like everything is in fine working order. Great Job and happy grilling.

I have a Weber for 12 years and I think my burners are still good, though I havent looked lately. I am sure they are stainless.

Great looking steak there.

They call it "Planned Obsolescence", If they built them of any Quality then they wouldn't sell any new grills.

Once someone bought a grill that actually lasts, they would hold on to it and not replace every year or so like they do now...

Most people are not capable of doing the repairs and upgrades like oneshot has.

That is why you can find such great deals on Craig's list, when the electronic lighter or some other small problem arises they just replace the whole grill...

Good rebuild.

Gotta say, the Charmglow and Charbroil and most other brands wear out quick. Had a couple of those over time, and they were only good for a few years before they'd decay into a scrap heap. Weber used to be a longer-lasting deal, but the new ones look as cheap as anything else out there.

Glad I got my Weber when I did; 11 years later, the burners remain intact. The only things I've had to replace were the "flavorizer" bars and the igniter. Flavorizers three years ago, igniter last year. And perhaps in another few years, the burners... Aside from those expected items, the remainder of the unit is in excellent condition. I expect it'll be around for another 15 years at least.
