The easiest way is to brush everything with a nylon dish brush and rinse with the garden hose. If all the gunk brushes off, the kitchen sink sprayer works, too. I have a fire ring made of a big tractor rim dug down, and set flush with the ground, and I dump the bin's contents in there, along with any ashes that accumulate during the week. The rain gutter out on the curb would work, too. It would have the same ecological impact as using the sink or dish washer, but a little kinder to your home plumbing.
