I'm going to buy a GOSM tonight, I think. Now I need a place to put it.

Possible choices:
Carpet covered wooden deck with metal roof
In yard in grass
In yard on patio stones (yet to be purchased)

For your safest bet I would put it in your yard on patio stones or bricks. Even though your cooking with gas the carpeted wood deck sounds like too much of a fire hazard. Just my .02.

jtdavies,
Lady J is right about the safest place to put the GOSM but you might want to consider a mat or fire proov cover and put it on the carpeted wooden deck under the GOSM. (I really like the fact that it is covered so that you could cook in a little foul weather.) I've seen the fire proof mats at Home Depot and several other places. I believe that would be my choice.

Where ever you decide to put it, I would recommend you purchase an automotive drip pan and put it on that. I bought a couple at Pep Boys auto parts store for $10 each. I've owned 4 GOSM smokers and they all leak fat dripping out the bottom, even the Big Blocks with built-in drip pans still leak. The fat will stain wood or carpet or concrete and it's very tough to get clean. The drip pan will save you lots of grief and elbow grease.
