I picked 9 pound an bigger cause most of em er fer the business. Personal use 7 pounders er nice cause they go a bit quicker.

Bigger ones tend ta have a tad more fat then them smaller ones which helps with the flavour an juice.

I can get 6 7 to 8 pounders in my smoker and they smoke up beautifully for my set up. besides I can feed my family with one and have no waste with a 8 pounder

I have cooked, what I think is a medium sized butt. I want to try my hand at something a little bigger. I want to try a 15 pounder. Because of the loss during the smoke & the things you can do with the leftovers. Interesting thread. Made me laugh & almost post a pic that I am sure would've been removed.

Anyway, I said 9 and up, because the bigger ones tend to be the ones that have less of the fat cap trimmed off. It's important when you smoke cap-down.

I tend to get the Sam's Club double pack, which usually averages about 8 to 9 pounds each. I havent done one by itself, and the size is usually right for what we do with it. Some gets eaten during the pulling process, some gets frozen for future use, most of the "scraps" get re-used in the Butt Beans (http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/for...ght=butt+beans)

As for the other... any butt is good butt!

Phil, I have often thought the same thing myself... there are a thousand innuendos in the smoking world and I have been tempted...
