What size grate should I get for the charcoal pan and how close to the bottom of the pan should it rest?  Can't seem to find the perfect fit.  Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving.

Most people recommend the Weber 7439 grate, used in the "Smokey Joe" mini-webers. It is a good strong grate and is <$7 at HomeDepot.

But at only 10.5" diameter, it only sits a half inch off the bottom of the stock Brinkmann charcoal pan, which gives plenty of airflow under your coals when you're starting out but with (Kingsford) coals will fill up with ash long before you're done.  So I recommend 3 short lengths of half or 3/4 inch pipe to raise it off the bottom a bit more.
