what clearence lid to rack on vert drum smoker?

Finishing up a vertical 55 gal drum smoker, and had a question. What's the distance from the lid down to the rack supposed to be?

Depends on the drum, you want to have your grill about 24" from your charcoal ring, which leaves between 6 to 8" from the lid.
