Wall thickness

    The gas models that I have seen do not have nearly the thickness in material as most of the wood smokers. Do they not need the thickness in walls due to the constant heat from the flame or are they in general just made cheaper?

    I'd say just cheaper. The thickness in the metal varies from one manufacturer to the next but they still work OK.

    have noticed propane smoker walls thinner than charcoal ones..but my thin walled gosm manages to work fine even in temps of 20-30* outside....
  4. Please don't quote me, but it is possible the the propane is thinner because it's easier to maintain temps with gas.
    That and cost effective for the company to produce. (Cheaper)

    That's kind of what I was thinking. Maybe with the constant flame they would just get to hot with the heavier walls. Anyway, the wife wanted to know and I didn't really have any idea. Her brother has a wood burner and it is pretty heavy duty and she thinks mine (whatever I buy) should be also, even if it will be a gas burner....

    Although I just converted my ECB charcoal/wood smoker with an afterburner-H and tested the temps. It maintained a pretty constant temp and I didnt have a problem getting the temp down to what I liked and maintaining it there.
