UDS Cover help

    Okay got a weber grill cover 23 1/4 <---> outside of the drum
    22 3/8 <---> inside of drum
    litte more then 22 3/4 inside of weber top
    and the web grill itself is 22 1/2 which the cover fits on ...

    Trying to get the weber top to fit the Drum without modifying the cover because I would like to have dual use out of it...theres nothing wrong witht he weber grill and I would still like to use it..

    Any Ideas ?

    Find a Weber kettle donor bottom from a yard sale or craigslist, cut the top 2" off of it and fasten it inside the top of the drum. Then use woodstove gasket and high heat silicone to seal the gap

    BBQ Bubba posted a thread with pictures where he did this, but it was lost in the crash. I have a donor ketttle right now that I am preparing to use for this -- as soon as I can get the bottom cut.

    Or, and you would have to measure your drum carefully for this, but I have heard that SOME drums and Weber lids fit perfectly togiether if you cut the rolled edge off the top..

    Does the top of your drum have a lip on it (like for a locking ring) If so cut this lip off. The kettle lid should fit fine then.

    On the drum I am building one end had this lip and one didn't so I flipped it over and made the bottom into the top.

    Yeah it does have a lip..... The drum im talking about already has the holes drilled...this drum was my first drum where I learned my mistakes from ... I guess I could weld up the holes or just redo one from scratch with the other two drums I have sitting in the garage.

    The bottom also has a small lip on it and the cover "just" doesnt fit on it, im sure I could probably just hammer down a little on the cover and make it fit... just would be easier on the current drum cause all the holes and bolts are in place and its seasoned already... Im a bit concerned about cutting the lip off cause it might come off very uneven and leave a sharp jagged edge... im not much of a fabricator so any idea I go with I will be bringing it down to my mechanics shop for him to do whatever I need...

    I hear ya there. [​IMG] That's why mine hasn't been converted yet because my friend who has the fabricating skills . . . and tools . . .[​IMG] hasn't had time to cut the bottom yet.

    If you really like your Weber and want to continue to use it, I'd try to find another donor Weber. That way if something goes wrong, you don't mess up your grill. They should be easy to find this time of year at yard sales and such.

    if you can get yourself another lid for your drum, you could cut a whole in one of the lids small enough to set the weber lid on. You could probably cold chisel the whole, but it will look like a shark bite.
