Turkey Poll- dry or moist white meat

My wife and I go through this every year.  She prefers her white meat dry.   To me its strange.  I obviously prefer moist.  I told her she was the minority.  So what do you all say on this forum?  Dry or moist white meat on turkey.

That's the first time I've ever heard someone say they prefer dry white meat to moist, but you know, to each their own.  If that was the situation around here I'd smoke two turkeys; one unbrined, overcooked, and dry; one brined, cooked to perfection, and moist.

My mother always overcooked her turkeys, as did her mother.  The white meat tasted dry and chalky, requiring lots of gravy.  I suspect it had something to do with the way they were taught to ensure no one got food poisoning.

My mother did the same thing. My father and sister both demand dark meat. Thats it, nothing else will be tollerated. BUT...... Since I have started smoking again, both have decided that they can eat white meat, as long as I cooked it. Even the care giver, exact same thing. I am starting to see it as a trend. Most folks eat dark meat because its generally less dry when over cooked.

To save a marriage, I suggest if not two small turkeys, maybe a small turkey and a turkey breast. Leave it out where they can taste delicious and juicy white meat and you may be surprized.

Her mom loves it moist.  There is a funny story when she was in grade school she said grandma your turkey was good.  It was dry.  Her mom had to tell her that us usually an insult- dry turkey.  She just prefers it that way.

There it is, the grandma connection. Every bite is like she's kissing her grandma. No further need to discuss. And grandma is smiling.

This is why I don't like turkey everyone in my side of the family and my wife's side cook Turkey the traditional way in an oven until it is as dry as a bone with the exception of a few. Everyone on my side of the family does the same thing with ham, they bake it in the oven until it turns to into slivers and then they rave about how good it is. Mom always said if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all so so keep my mouth shut. She also said if you don't like what's on the table don't eat it but never complain. Most everyone on both sides of our family eat dry turkey, but I have seen them all pass on the dry stuff and go for the moist when there is a choice. I won't touch either one if it's traditional, but brine and smoke one and I'm there unfortunately our family would turn their nose up and consider it sacrilege.

There's the key.... a happy wife means a happy life..... You can separate the 2 breasts from the wings, backbone, thighs and legs... Kind of a spatched white meat from dark meat... give it a try....

Its funny how we like things we grew up with. I had a waffle for breakfast the other morning. I really don't care for waffles anymore as I'm older and tastes change. My grandmother always made them when I was small and visiting. At that time I loved them almost floating in syrup, which I don't do anymore. Like the other morning I have one once in awhile while thinking of her. I would love to sit across the table and enjoy one her waffles while talking to her again as we did.
