Toning it down

    Hello, I have a Nesco fd75 dehydrator that I just got. I made jerky out of ground beef using that caulking gun you can buy. I bought a case of the Nesco jerky spice works seasoning packs.

    The batch of jerky I made with the original "hot" seasoning was a little too hot for my taste.I didn't care for the hot after taste.

    Question, what could I add to the seasoning when I mix it with the ground beef to take some of that hotness away? Thanks!

    Randy, without tasting the spice pack the only thing there is to go by is the listed ingredients. The common ones being Dextrose (Sugar), Salt, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, and Hydrolyzed Soy Protein ( Basically an Amino flavor enhancer similar to MSG.). You would have to experiment using half the Spice packet and adding say 1 teaspoon of each of the above to make up the difference... Or most grocery stores carry Kikkoman Powdered Teriyaki mix that has most of the same ingredients as above. Add a couple teaspoons to half the Jerky Spice packet to cut the heat...JJ


    Dehydrated Soy Sauce (Wheat, Soybeans, Salt, Maltodextrin), Dextrose, Salt, Maltodextrin, Brown Sugar, Modified Corn Starch, Caramel Color, Torula Yeast, Autolyzed Yeast, Garlic, Spices, Calcium Silicate (As Anticaking Agent), Natural Flavor, Malic Acid, Citric Acid, Beef Meat, Beef Fat.
