I came across this last night while researching pig roasters and large grills in general and thought it might be a helpful post here for whole pig cooking ideas. Looks really great, I bet that is some tasty eating.

Anyone here build hog grills like this for backyard cooking? Pros and cons of it?

My goal is to eventually work my way up to a whole hog done right, then I will feel like I've mastered something. :-)

I've been all over Cowgirl's site, and much applause to her, she could shame most men in the rustic cooking department from what I've seen on that blog. I'm no country boy by a country mile at all, but you gotta give props where it is due.

Growing up outside of Boston, our neighbor had a pit like this, and while I don't recall them ever doing whole hogs, they were always grilling and smoking something or other that smelled good. We used to have shared backyard cookouts with them up until we moved away, and I've always kept it in the back of my mind to this day.

I have plenty of yard to build one too. I'm actually considering removing my deck to install a cement patio with an outdoor cooking/dining area complete with wash sinks and storage.
