Went out to Wally World last night to get some more R O lump for today. Saw this little R O electric smoker. Saw the price..$88, didn't think much about it. Got home and said to myself, self, you know, that might be kinda nice for this winter. So, this morn I put the butt on the snp about 5:30 and at 6:30 everything was looking good. Headed over to Wally World and got it. Cleaned it out, cured it for 2 hrs, and now instead of doing 2 fatties with the butt, I threw 1 in the little electric for lunch. Put a couple pieces of lump down on the drip pan (not sure if your supposed to) and put some hickory in the smoke box. Well better go, my butt just hit 142, so better go foil it.

Like to see the inside of that unit!
Foiling a butt at 142??? Go to at least 160 if you want any smoke flavor!

No, it was 162, I had just looked at the fatty and it was 142. So that's what the brain typed.

Mark - way to hit the ground running with that new gig of yours. Nice price too!!

Hope to see some pics of that butt and fatty. They sound good!

I'll take a pic of the inside after the fatty gets done. I think I'm going to like it. The recovery time is right away. Not sure about the smoke part. I don't like the little pan for chips. Once they finally start to smoke they're gone. But, figured out where to set it to stay at 225. That part will be nice.

Nice find! Our wally never has any good deals anymore, there remodelin, ya can't find nothin an all the good buys seemed ta have disapperared. Good luck with that new toy!

This is it. the inside is 26 1/2" H, 14 1/2W and 14 1/2 D

The bottom with drip pan, water pan and tiny smoke tray

i run coal in my elec unit thats a good buy on that unit and thanks for the qview you will enjoy it

Well lets see. The temp dial goes from off to hi. No temp settings. But after doing a fatty then some pig candy and messing with it for about 8 hrs I found where 200, 225, and 250 were at, and marked them on the dial. I'd shut it off, cool it down and set it on the 225 dot and once it got there(not long) it stayed right there. When I cured it to start with I left it on high for about 2 hrs and it hit 325. The thing I don't like is the little smoker box sux. Couldn't get much smoke at all. Think I'll do what morkdach did and throw some lump in the drip pan. I still like my SnP better though. But, this will be nice when the weather isn't the greatest.

guess all the good stuff goes to iowa first, havent seen these in kans. yet, even though the WM distribution center isnt far away. already have a mes in the city, but this looks like something i need at my lake house, hundred bucks cheaper, and i could probably work around the smoke problem, plus by a digi remote thermometer. is the unit insulated? that would be a definite plus. thnx.

So you can do chicken smokes at 325? Great!
the smoke box is designed wrong, or in the wrong place.
Can you set it right on the element?
Otherwise try a small pan ON the element with some chips.
Not sure what charcoal in the drip pan would do except make a mess.

better yet just sit a small pan on the element it self with a small amount of wood u will like the tbs way i do mine can show a pic if ya like

Gotta tell ya, I was thinking the same thing. Thought about putting the chip box right on top of the element towards the back. Right now it's kinda off to the side and about 3" above it. Tried chunks, dry, wet. Chips, dry, wet. Didn't mater. Cooked the pig candy for an hr and no smoke at all.
TJW, yes it is insulated. That was one of the reasons I got it-for this winter smokes. Probably wont get a whole lot of use this summer except for overflow when there is alot to smoke. All in all, after 1 day of messing with it, and never seeing one before, I think it will work for what I want it for.

just came in from cooking in the mes and looking it over a little closer. actually someone in my age bracket, late fifties could appreciate this description, the chip pan closely resembles what i remember as a large pull out front ash tray in an early 70s vehicle. so the space isnt too large, pretty much closed in as far as being almost air tight, it sits above the element, not on it, like my ecb, i have been adding a lump or two of charcoal to the pan, and wood chunks about every hour, looks like i could make this budget version work out for me. like to see it/see the specs. may have to drill a couple air inlets at the bottom and add a vent out the top.

I just received this smoker as a gift. This is my first smoker. I seasoned it today according to the instructions, 1 hour on high with wood chips in the tray. After about 45 minutes, the temperature was at 325 degrees, but no smoke. I opened the unit up to verify there was no smoke and then had trouble closing the door securely due to the hot metal expanding. I finally slammed the door and a few minutes later I noticed smoke coming from the unit. I shut the unit off after about an hour and a half, opened the door and found that the wood chip tray had fallen from the the shelf onto the element when I slammed the door earlier. So I think that when I actually try to smoke something, I'll place the wood chip tray on top of the element. I hope to try it out this weekend, if it don't rain. I'll post my results after that. Wish me luck.
