New to SMF. I have my first smoke this week for New Years. I think it will be a leg of lamb. Im looking for a thermometer. I live up state michigan. Looking foreword to cooking some great meats and fish. Jeff thanks for a great site. I have been on it every day for the past week and my girl thinks im crazy. She wont when shes eating smoked meat. Alan

I love my RediCheck because it has the dual probes (one for your smoker temp and one for your meat temp) and it's wireless. The only down fall is the range stinks but the new model is suppose to have fixed that.

Welcome to the SMF. A calibrated therm for grate/rack level and one for internal temps is a must for successful smoking. It's all good my friend.

First off Welcome Alan to SMF. You'll like it here for there are alot of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking. Now there are alot of proven recipes for some amazing things here too. So if you need sign up for the E-Course it's free and it will give you the basics of smoking and some good methods to use also. So the next big thing for you to do is go out and get you something to smoke and if you happen to have any questions just post it here and we will be happy to answer them for you.

Welcome To Your New Addiction

Welcolm toSMF,  I use the ET 73 dual probe wireless, the range is great, Ican use it from anywhere in my house  to my smoker, I forgot my meat probe 2 days ago outside in a little rain and snow, used it today and it worked fine

Hey, Thanks for the info on the thermometer. Looking to have a good smoke for the new years. Alan

I use a Taylor, there very reliable and inexpensive. However, the 3 that I have don't have wireless remotes, which would be a real plus. But if you don't mind walking by the smoker once in a while the Taylors are very good.

I ordered the E-732 from Todd, just waiting for it to come in. What I have been using is a wireless therm with a single probe that I got from Wally World for 15 bucks and a oven them that i sit on the rack. It works great and the range is decent. I cant wait to get the new one though.
