Now don't get me wrong...I'm no pro. But I do a pretty awesome job at smoking the birds. But the wife insists on baking the turkey when I have a perfectly good pile of wood and plenty of time to make a fun job out of it! I'm going to finishing up my uds tomorrow morning and I need to see how Mr. Ugly performs!

Last thanksgiving we smoked a turkey for the first time. There was no going back for us after that. I've had deep fried. Not bad. Oven cooked a many. Smoked? I'll take a smoked turkey any day.

Too bad you couldn't do one each way and serve them side by side. One drawback is dealing with an angry wife.

Since your bird for smoking is all ready thawed, she better purchase a thawed one to try in the oven... :grilling_smilie:

I hear that! That would probably get me in trouble. I guess sometimes you have to give in to the spouse. But it hurts me so bad!!!

I did get a turkey breast though. I might have to try it out on the smoker tomorrow morning. :yahoo:

There is no more picky person on this earth than my wife. And she loves smoked turkey. In fact there is nothing that I have smoked that she doesn't like. She prefers smoked meat and so do I. Not smoked from the store but fresh out of our smoker.

Hey let her have the one day.
My wife is master chef on thanksgiving...I got the rest of the year.
Pick your fights wisely my friend.
I did luck out this year and we have 2 birds and the master chef gave me the ok to pit cook the one.
Both are 19 pounders.
Woohoo

Oh I'm not fighting with her about it! It's not worth all that. But i can vent all i want about my smoker addiction on here! Haha!!! There's always the weekend. 6th weekend of smoking in a row by the way. I might be an addict.

Few years back did my first one in the smoker and the wife did one in the oven just in case the smoke one didn't turn out.

At the end of the day the smoke turkey was all gone and the oven turkey was still on the platter .

OMG?

He must be a young guy?

Let her do it.  You will never hear the end of it otherwise?

Also?

Why waste good smoker space on a dang turkey?

Eat it.  Say it was wonderful.  You might not have to sleep in the garage or on the couch?

Good luck and good smoking.

I'm in the same Boat Bro...Smoke something else...I'm Smoking a Sweet Potato Casserole with Pecan Crumble. Smoke some other Veg or Side. Go grab a small Ham add a schmear of Mustard, Maple Syrup, Brown Sugar and a pinch or Clove and Smoke that sucker at 225*F  to an IT of 145*F. Never heard anyone complain about a killer Twice Smoked Ham!...JJ

Compromise!!!

Smoke for 3 hours and then finish in the oven

I see a "Win/Win!"

For us "older" guys, that realize there is a certain amount of nostalgia associated with holidays for our wives, standing back and helping when needed is the safest and wisest thing we could do.....

Bride asks for smoked then finished in the oven all year long...

For today it was "this bird does not need to be smoked"....  I guess that meant, "Stay out of my kitchen, it's Thanksgiving"....    Not exactly sure... Still can't translate some stuff after all these years....

Well my wife makes it clear in no uncertain terms. When we remodeled the kitchen I wanted to cut one wall down half way and put a counter top and add tall stools. She said "no and while you're at it put the kitchen door back up to keep your mom out of my way while I'm cooking."  After 22 years of being married I have learned that I never really win an argument and there is a price to be paid for pissing off the boss. A lot of these newly wed guys, remember this, it will come to pass.   Happy Turkey Day
