i just got started smoking last week and had trouble getting over 160* in the brinkman(fathers day gift)..i saw DAN had the same problem and TEXAS-HUNTER had the idea to drill the charcoal pan to allow more air in..i was thinking along those lines but needed a second opinion..
thanks again

Welcome JD. Glad you got your problem solved. Sometime its an easy fix. I still use CB h2o electric alot and when i first started i was using a skinny cheap 100' cord. Switched to 10 ga. 50' cord and temps went up nicely. Happy smoking.

jdsmoke,

Welcome to SMF, that's one of the things that makes SMF great is the willingness of members to help each other out. I have visitation rights with my ECB-my daughter borrowed it and never brought it back.

It was tough to get the temps up so I added additional holes to the fire pan too. Unlike you, I didn't have SMF to turn to for help. I'll admit it- I'm one of the orginal old-timers here.

If you haven't already done so, sign up for the 5-day eCourse, it's free and there is a lot of good info in it.

Enjoy!

I'm still using my old ECB.

After doing the mods, temps are no problem

If fact, I have been able to cut WAAAAAAAYYY back on the amount of charcoal I use to use.
