Temp probe holes?

Discussion in 'Propane Smokers' started by lennyluminum, Aug 6, 2016.

  1. How do you guys run your temp probes into the smoker? Drill holes?

Any how come they don't put a side shelf on these propane smokers? I bolted on 2 self brackets and cut an old chopping block for a shelf. Now I have a place to set my igrill2 and gloves.

On my Smoke Vault I just shut the door on the cables. The door isn't that tight, or sometimes I run them thru the top vent.

I have a hole in the stack end of my smoker that has a conduit cable connector in it. I can run 2 probes through it and could probably run 3 through the grommet or 4 if you leave the grommet out. This makes a great port for probes. Some of the major builders use this arrangement.

The cable connectors are a couple of bucks in the electrical department at Lowe's.
  4. Can you post a pic

Look up: Sigma Electric #49092. 1/2" service entrance connector. You can order it on line, but it's much cheaper at Lowe's. Be sure to get the metal, not the plastic. The metal is zinc coated, but it is nowhere near your meat.
