Was thinking something like this.

I would prefer one that is wireless.

I just did a search for the type I have and it doesn't seem to be listed for availability: Accurite model 00648. I have 3, well 2 because I damaged a probe lead on one. I've been getting them at the local hardware store for the past 9 months. Cost is about $22.50, and they have a temp range of up to 392*, have a braided metal lead cable assembly, and they aren't the type that you select the meat type and level of doneness, so you can set the temp alarm exactly where you want it. These aren't wireless, though I'm not sold on that idea. They use 2 "AAA" batteries, so they work well using rechargeables. I've had lots of good smokes using mine, so if you can find one...

Good luck!

Eric

I have been in the same boat as far as needing a good digital thermometer. I have looked around for the on I am wanting and it is a Maverick ET-73 It is a dual probe thermometer. It look like am going to have to order it from the site because I have not seen them any where. you can Google Maverick thermometer Industries and you can check them out...That thermometer was recommended to me by a few people on here.. Hope this helps you out...

Bbrock, you can get mavericks fairly priced, most likely with free shipping at Amazon.

As far as a thermo for a Brinkman. I use an $8.00 home depot bbq thermometer. It works so well, I bought another and put it on my Weber. The one on the Weber works terribly. So I'm 1 for 2. Because 50% QC rate is horrible, I'll never buy another.

In the meantime, I bought a Maverick E-7. I found that it takes temperatures accurately. But it's built like a toy, and the range is not very good. I couldn't find anything better though, so I bought it and am living with it. It has 2 meat probes, and can be set to alarm when the temperature reaches the point you set. It works well on the grate stuck through a piece of wood. The only problem is that it won't alarm if the temperature falls too low in the cooker. For that you have to pay a few bucks more and get an ET73. That unit has one meat probe and one grate probe. And the grate probe will alarm you for high or low temps. I don't need that, so I got the 7.

I went with the Maverick DIGITAL BARBEQUE THERMOMETER. I bought a Weber digital wireless thermometer last week but it's only for meat and temps up to 199. When I buy a smoker for my home I'll pick up a nice one that measures both the meat and chamber temps.
Here's the one I got for $18.99, figured I don't need a wireless one:
