stoked to smoke! I just seasoned my new smoker

  1. I'm new to smoking but not to the kitchen. Grew up in New Orleans, now live in Jax, Fl. Just set up my new Masterbuilt electric smoker & am open to any newbie tips. I stumbled on the site and have some reading to do! Can't wait to get rolling. Should I start with poultry or chops to get to know my smoker? I'm all ears.

    The amnps works great in the mes.

    I would give some chicken parts a try first.

    its a tray that you load with pellets, i have one but i havent done any long smokes yet, i have played with it and it's quite difficult to keep it lit. There are lots of post on here on keeping it lit. Here is a link to what it looks like and where you can but it.

    First since this is Roll Call, I would like to say Howdee. Glad you dropped by. There is a vast expanse of knowledge here just waiting for you to call upon it.

    AMPs  is a fine tool, its a aux smoke generator, pellet type. It has the advantage of using pellets so you can also experience the diffrent woods which you might get a chance to find as chips.

    But for my 2 cents a remote probe would be the first and formost as to needed. It allows you to smoke without worry about safety for yourself and others. AND even when you mess up, and it will happen, its still a good smoke. It keeps you from getting dry meat, or rare meat, so even if you chose unwisely on you flavor modifiers the meat is still edible.

    But you'll quickly realize all that. What you need is experience so you can start building your knowledge. The more you smoke the better it gets. Plus its a good excuse to get to do it more often.

    Loads of knowledge, good folks here, and more ideas than you'll ever get a chance to try...LOL.

    Just vrememberthere is no one perfect way, everyone has their own way and think ours is the best. Try it, see what you think, what I think may not be how you think.

  5. Glad you joined the group. The search bar at the top of any page is your best friend.
    About anything you wanna know about smoking/grilling/curing/brining/cutting or slicing
    and the list goes on has probably been posted. Remember to post a QVIEW of your smokes.
    We are all smoke junkies here and we have to get our fix. If you have questions
    Post it and you will probably get 10 replies with 11 different answers. That is
    because their are so many different ways to make great Q...

  6. Thanks! I've already gained knowledge of 2 tools and a couple acronyms:) Off to a good start. Was gonna wait til weekend but think I'll crank it up today. Plus I can read other posts for the 6 hours smokin
