I have a food grade, heavy Gage metal, stainless 55 gallon drum.

The drum was made in the late 1950's in a lot of 100 at the cost of $200 each.  I have one made into a wood burner for my pole barn I have used it for over 25 years with no apparent wear or damage.

The drums are heavy wall and closed end, with heavy steel bands protecting the welded seam ends and two circular "I" steel rings a third of the way down from each end for rolling the drum into ship holds.

I only have one chance to build this UDS looking for good suggestions and hints.

The picture has a lot of stuff in the way, not the case now.  It is the only picture I have of the drum at present.

Thanks much ahead of time.

Almost done with the UDS, down to adding wheels/drum dolly and thermostats.

? looking for recommendations on type and brands of thermostats to use for the UDS

1-2 to be mounted on the drum or Weber lid. and a electronic to be run through a chase into the drum and left with the UDS

will post pictures when done

Thanks

Seasoned the drum UDS

it maintained 250 degrees for over 8 hours, the outdoor temperature was 18 with no wind chill

I will post pictures of the Brisket I plan on cooking this weekend

the only thing that is yet to be installed is a digital thermometer, I had planned on a small shelf attached to the UDS and a drum dolly

No table or dolly, the drum weighs over 100 pounds, will be using a two wheel hand cart to move it around the property

the information on this forum is much appreciated
