You all were very helpful in my first build..the insulated build that I thought I'd post up my latest project to see if there were any suggestions along the way :D

This build is just for the hell of it, just wanted to build one...I'll end up putting it up on eBay, craigslist, etc...once it's done.  Wifey would kill me if I kept both smokers, hahaa!!

Here are the basics:

Smoker chamber and firebox will be made out of 3/8" steel.

Smoke chamber is 30" Long x 22" wide.

Just got started over last weekend...looking forward to getting more work on it done :)

Looks awesome so far..  My only suggestions would be bigger wheels, and pull out shelves when you get to that point.

Thanks guys...forgot to take a few more pics...but this past weekend, I got the smoke chamber door all cut out, welded on the hinges and the lip that goes around the door.

Fourthwind...yup, absolutely doing pull out shelves! :D  As for the wheels...yeah...I'm kind of agreeing with you.  On paper they seemed fine, but reality...eh...thinking about replacing.

LOL are you an engineer by chance???   If I had a penny for every time I heard that from the aerospace engineer's I could afford to send my kids to college :)

haha, as an engineer, thats our favorite saying.  But not in the shop.  If we said that to the guys actually building the stuff, we might be met in the parking lot some night.

Hahaha...nope, just an i-bank consultant.  Well, they work fine and hold the weight - but they look puny - so will probably end up swapping them out :)

Looks like the makings of a fine rig. Would that be 3/8" or 1/2" wall pipe?  And the door looks fabulous, probably a little on the heavy side??

Nice work.

Thanks guys :)  Yup Tom, that is 3/8" wall pipe and yeah...that door is a good bit on the heavy side.  I'm probably going to end up making a small counter weight to help get it moving.

tukson - thanks man...will do.  I'm planning on getting the sides cut and welded on this weekend and maybe get the side firebox on as well.

Cant wait to see more pics.

The one I am almost done with is way way heavy, 3/8 wall also with 1/4 end plates.

I did add a counter to my door, it made a big difference. I just don't like the way it looks. I wish I had more of an imagination for stuff like this. Also I am thinking of making a couple pig silhouettes to weld to the door for a place to mount the handle. Your rig looks great, I'm jealous since my pipe had a section cut out of it and I had to put it back together to make my smoker. Mine isnt as crisp and clean as yours.

Nice work.

Finally got the ends welded on the main chamber.  The second circle I cut came out MUCH better than the first ;)  Ha, nothing an hour or two of grinding won't fix up :D

The first circle / end plate cut and welded on.

Looking good. Hey don't fret abit, I am a professional grinder myself.

Is that the full size of the chamber opening.

Ha...thanks man :)  Yeah, that's the full size...it's rougly 30sq inch opening - right about what the pit calculator came up with.  Looks kinda small, but when I used the calc on my other smoker it worked out well.

Planning on using pipe stove rope to seal around the door and build a locking handle to pull it tight :D
