This recipe my ma got from a black woman she worked with back in the 70's who called them soul beans , i love this recipe kinda unique but goes great with ham on the holidays , my family always wants me to make these

1lb bacon
2 0r 3lbs pork and beans
1 med onion
1 green pepper
mustard to color
ketchup to color
1 to 2 cups brown sugar(depending on your taste buds)
3/4 to 1 tbl spoon of cinamon (gotta learn this one as it overpowers easily)

chop bacon into small pieces, chop onion and green pepper also, saute bacon with green pepper and onions til bacon cooked but soft.DO NOT REMOVE BACON GREASE! add beans ,
then mustard and stir just enough to lighten up color , but go light this will overpower also. then add ketchup and stir till darkens up the mixture then add brown sugar and stir till melted then add cinimon to taste too much will totally overpower the dish cook on low heat for at least 2 hours to thicken up and serve these beans are delicious and will have the cholesterol police freakin out for sure!!!
