I just purchased and received Jeff's book "Smoking Meat", and cannot put it down. In one area Jeff mentions that it's a good idea to keep track of all the details related to your smoking sessions. Couldn't agree more.

Seeing that I'm in the IT business and love to create databases, I thought I'd put one together and then share it with other members.

If you happen to have Bento installed on any of your devices, and would like to have a nice little database designed "by a smoker for smokers", just let me know and I'll email you the template.

I've shared my "Smoker DB" template with the fine folks on the Bento Template web site, but my database hasn't been posted/published as of yet. I believe it takes a while to go through all the channels before being OK'd.

I'm also very close to finishing my smoker cart. Once done, I'll post photos.

I uploaded a photo (screen shot) of my Smoker's DB. Not too sure if everyone can see it or not. Let me know if you can't see it.

Click on my avatar (photo of me standing by my grill) and then scroll down. You should see it there WC and GoFish.

I don't see an option for me to place a photo within my post. Maybe it's because I'm still a "Newbie" or it's just too early in the morning for me. :)

Thanks Indyadmin. I thought I had gone through all of the editing buttons, but obviously missed it. :)

As for owning a PC, you're right...Bento is not "yet" offered for Windows users. I should not have assumed that they offered a Windows version too. My bad.

As for all of you Mac users out there, once you have Bento installed onto your computer, then all you need to do is to load my database template into Bento by double-clicking it...and then you'll soon be on your way of keeping track of all of your smoking notes and photos.

That's a pretty cool lookin' database gramps.  I'd be interested in a copy of the template to check it out more. I'm using a notebook now but would be great to have an electronic record to have all the info and pics in one place.  I'll PM you my email address.

Hi Grandpa, I grew up in Montevideo, MN.  That DB is awesome, Let me know if it becomes available for Windows PC.  Thanks Steve.  Also welcome to the forum, I am sort of new too, but found a bunch of new tips and info here!

Filemaker Pro/Bento has finally made my "Smoker DB" template available (for free) on their template web site. Click on the link below to go to the download page.

Remember, you'll need to purchase a copy of Bento for either your Mac or for your iPad in order to make the database work for you. Bento is not made for PC users, however it should work on your iPad, iPhone, and Mac.

(I am in no way tied to FilemakerPro/Bento. I simply created this very simple smoker database for your use at no charge whatsoever.)

If you have questions, feel free to ask. I can walk you through the very easy steps to get you started.

Enjoy, Gramps.

I got it downloaded last night and started toying with it. I have no database experience, but thought I'd give it a try.

I made some major modifications to the database and shared them with Gramps and he liked what he saw. I am going to start a new thread with the info so as to not completely hijack this thread.

Thanks for your help Grampa Doodie!

Don't cut yourself short Cybergoon...you've learned more about databases today than I've learned in years. Great job on your new smoker database!! I encourage everyone to take a look at his new database. It's really very, very nice.

(Feel free to hijack my thread...not a problem.)

I have a very simple database up on Filemaker's web site along with another simple one on its way soon. Cybergoon's database template is much more in-depth giving you a whole lot more room for entering lots of great info pertaining to your smoking session.

If this spreads even further, maybe others will be able to offer their database template(s) to the group. :)

I got it published already! I emailed them about 30 minutes after submitting it and they replied and said it is up now.

Looks great Marc. Sorry folks about the double entry above. I have no idea why that happened. I'll delete one of them later. :)

For those of you who are/were using Bento as a database app, you've probably discovered that Bento is no longer supported or offered. (Since 2013)

Just wanted you all to know that I purchased and downloaded a great replacement app. It's called Tap Forms. It's a fairly new app created by a young guy in Canada, and is getting better with every version. The Mac version was $34.99 and the iOS version I believe was $8.99.

My existing Bento "Smoker Database" imported into Tap Forms perfectly. Photos and all!!

Tap Forms also syncs to your iCloud, so your iDevice (iPhone/iPad) will stay synced as well.

Holler if you have any questions, Gramps.
