So I built my redneck smoker and did not put a temp gauge on the smoke box. The one they had a Lowes really blowed, LOL. Its was $10 and chessy. So I have been using my laser thermo. Any one else do this? Or have you cross referenced with you on the box thermo?

Several of my rigs have the cheep candy thermo's. All I have done inthe past is drill a correct size hole and just slid the candy therm in and its good to go. Most of them have a retaining clip in the package.

I have never used the laser thermo's but I think that they would be a cool toy to play with.

Is this the therm you saw at Lowes? If so they work OK. I only use mine to get a general idea of the temps. There not perfect but close. I use my wireless's for meat monitoring. I was doing some grilling that's why it's at 500* in this pic.

Yea thats the one. I have only been using the temp gun for general temps as well. It has been really handy for finding hot spots and knowing how hot or cool everything and earth is...lol
