My boys and some friends came by early this morning to con Mama into making them some Lumpia. They even brought the wrapper!

Well what's a Mama to do? I just happened to have cabbage (I was going to make slaw) but I didn't have any thawed pork ... Hmmm what to do?

I rummaged around in the fridge and found a bag off pulled pork .... Hmmmm I wonder ...

Well I gotta tell ya ... We LOVE Lumpia but Smoked pork makes it even better! It was so good I put my own self n the SMF Hall of Fame page!

For those of you that don't know what Lumpia is - it's a Philipino style egg roll that's usually thin like a guys finger and people that eat em - eat lots and lots of them! So I stuff mine thick like regualr chinese egg rolls. I had one heck of a time trying to get pictures the boys were jumping all over my tiny kitchen trying to steal them before they even cooled. 50 Lumpia gone as fast as I could fry them. I got two.

Here's the link - you gotta try this!

Deb, FYI there's a Filipino deli in the Yalesville section of Wallingford that makes Lumpia and has all the goodies there to make your own if you prefer that instead. He also has a great original recipe for them. They're the best I've ever had outside of Olongapo City. The store is in the old post office bldg. if you're ever over that way.

I love lumpia.....used to have a philapeno gal living behind me that would make it all the time....man it's good........made it once myself but this recipe is a must do......didn't think of trying it larger like egg rolls

We have alot of .... hmmm International corner markets that sell them too. I live rigt next to the Casinos and they've really brought in alot of Oriental folks. I kind of have this thing about buying instant food. I rather do it myself unless I'm in a restaurant, but thanks for the info.

I kind of adapted my recipe from all the guys wives I used to work with when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor. I was the only American woman in the group they were all either Hawain or Fillipino. They always fussed because I stuffed them so full but hey they're a PITA to make so stuff the buggers and enjoy them.

One picnic we had I put a few Italian sausages in mine and all the guys were bugging their wives to find out how I made mine. That did not make them happy!

We made this yesterday and I gotta say.....it is absolutely screaming! If you havn't tried this I suggest you put aside about 3 pounds worth of you next pulled pork smoke cause this is well worth it!

Thank you very much for this one Deb. 5 stars for sure!

BTW -

They are time consumming to make so I make a few hundred at a time and freeze them. They freeze great. They thaw fast so you can cook them frozen.
