I had a taste for some beef tonight and stopped in at Krogers, this is what I found.

    2.49 a pound.

Marinading with some marinade Dave Piginit sent me, thanks man, first time I am using it.

Pretty lean and a bit thin, I am going to have to be careful on the sear.

Agreed, they look very lean. Sirloin is my favorite cut of beef: best texture/flavor. I usually buy a whole sirloin from Costco and cut it up. keep the good stuff for steaks.
    Best of luck

    Well here they are.

Seared for 2 minutes per side.

Carol loves beets, so she got em.

My steak, sorry for the blurry pic.
They were good flavor wise and juicy, but certainly not a ribeye. For 2.49 a pound can't beat it. I might pick up a few more, or see if I can get a roast or maybe thicker steaks.

    Thanks for watching.

Looks great Ron although I do agree about the beets, not my cup of tea though mushrooms, now that I can get down with. A nice steak with some shrooms and onions...Mmmmmm........

Those are sirloin tip steaks, not sirloin steaks, that's why they're so lean, more off the round than the loin. But they can be tender also, you cooked 'em just right!

    Beets look great too!

    Nice steak.

Shrooms' rule. Given the porousness of mushrooms, they should soak up alot of smoke.

I guess they left that off the label, lol.[IMG] Probably on purpose. All our stores here call them Petite Sirloin.

Did you smoke em? Gotta be careful with thin ones like that. I had some sirloins cut 1 1/4" thick and smoked/charred those babies. See if your butcher will cut ya some thicker ones. :) You dun good with what you had there. Looks delicious and perfectly done. [IMG]

As always ron...looks great. Did you like the marinade. I've never seen that one but I do have some of their Balsamic Vinegar.

Did you send Dave some Yoshidas in return?

Yes Mike I smoked them. I went back yesterday for some thicker ones gut he had gotten some lousy meat so I didn't take any.

It was good, has some lime juice in it.

As far as trading yes, I did send him a bottle and some stockenette, and in return he sent me the marinade and a beautiful toothpick holder.

It has a wolf's head. He is one talented guy.

    Looks Shweeeeeeeet to me!

I'm careful not to marinade for a long time with the Allegro. It does have a saltiness to it and part of what I like about it besides the flavor is that it doesn't take much or a long time to flavor a piece of meat. I usually marinade for about an hour and a half or less. It is great to baste steak or burgers with while they are searing also. The only thing I leave in it longer is when I marinade vegetables. I like the allegro and I think you have to learn to use it to your liking.

Good Looking Staeks for the beets...when my mother died, I inherited my Grandma's old recipe book including her recipe for pickled beets....My family (including the kids) are as crazy for them as I was at that age which makes them especially fun to can as it has become a family affair with fond memories for me as I recall hours spent in the kitchen helping Grandma when I was a kid......Thanks for the qview and the trip down memory lane!
